Scott AV-3000® SCBA Bayonet to 40MM NATO (RD40x1/7) Adapter
This prototype design for a Scott® AV-3000 SCBA bayonet to 40MM NATO (RD40x1/7/DIN) gas mask thread adapter. Designed to help cross compatibility of commercial off the shelf (COTS) filters with other manufacturer’s respirators during this PPE shortage. In this particular instance an adapter for self-contained breathing apparatus, that many fire departments use, can now be compatible with any RD40x1/7 filter canisters or step down adapters to other respirator manufacturer filter cartridges.
Part Description:
SCOTT_AV3000_SCBA_BAYONET_TO_40MM_NATO_ADAPTER_GEN1.stl
Initial model release.
SCOTT_AV3000_SCBA_BAYONET_TO_40MM_NATO_ADAPTER_INHALATION_GASKET_GEN1.stl
Required inhalation gasket to adapt SCBA mask for respirator use.
SCOTT_AV3000_SCBA_BAYONET_TO_40MM_NATO_ADAPTER_BAYONET_GASKET_GEN1.stl
Required bayonet gasket to ensure proper seal from adapter to SCBA mask.
40MM_NATO_GASKET_GEN1.stl
Required gasket to ensure proper seal from 40MM NATO filter/adapter to interior pocket of RD40X1/7 threads.
Disclaimers/Risks:
1.) Requires 40 mm OD gasket or o-ring on the interior pocket for RD40x1/7 threads. I’ve included an .STL for 40MM NATO Gasket for reference or to print with TPU.
2.) Requires inhalation gasket. I do not have a Scott AV-3000 SCBA mask, but based on pictures I did not see an inhalation gasket. Which would make sense for positive pressure system for a self contained breathing apparatus. Therefore to properly function for CBRN use, there should be an inhalation gasket. I’ve included an .STL file for the inhalation gasket to print with TPU.
3.) Requires bayonet gasket to seal adapter to SCBA mask. I’ve included an .STL to print with TPU.
4.) Adapter does not feature an SCBA locking mechanism/latch. Since I do not have a Scott AV-3000 SCBA mask for reference, I couldn’t get a good estimate for the locking notch, and conceive of a locking mechanism or interface. Therefore, be sure to continually check to ensure adapter tighten down. User maybe able to shim or stack the bayonet gasket to ensure a tighter fit.
5.) 3D printing materials are not resistant to many solvents, are water soluble, and degrade when exposed to chemicals. 3D printing this adapter is only a temporarily ad-hoc solution against biological threats. Once supply chain return to normal users should purchase OEM OSHA/NIOSH/EN standard approved adapters and respirator accessories.
