CS1 has a 9×9 grid, with only the inner 5×5 playable in the unmodded version.

Each tile is 2 km x 2 km. So the player gets 100 km² to play with.

The leaked achievement list states that there’s an achievement for unlocking 150 map tiles.

If map tiles are still 2 km x 2 km, that means we’d have a whopping 600 km² to play!

The thing that bugs me is that neither 150 nor 600 have a whole number square root.

Does this mean that the map is no longer a square? Possibly it’s rectangular with 10 tiles by 15 tiles of playable area.

Alternatively, the map might be a 15 x 15 grid with 225 tiles, and the game just limits you to to the 150.

Another thing that has me wondering is that the achievement doesn’t say “all 150” – it just says unlock 150. So maybe the playable space is actually bigger.

Or who knows… maybe tiles are now 1 km x 1 km, and the CS2 map is only 50% larger than the CS1 map.
