The weight paint not applying properly (creating a "heat map" for instances to follow)

This is my second project after the Donut. I am following the Geometry node episode from BlenderGuru to recreate the same Sprinkles effect on this dought. Although, the main difference is I started with a circle mesh and extruded until I got here. Also, followed this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DV1CrpegG8 at 18:40.

Main issue: Weight painting from the top applies to the bottom, and vice versa. It takes a while for the weight paint to become brighter than green no matter how strong or big the brush is.

According to this other post on this sub, weight paint is applied to vertices, and the more vertices you have the more detailed the weight paint is. So, just to make sure I increased the number of vertices I had but it didn’t change anything

Do I need to UV unwrap this before applying weight paint? do circle meshes come UV unwrapped or are they different than the other elementary shapes in blender?

here’s the .Blend file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gDXgIE4iWMt2iTOV6LCc3iFSDaBZuUri/view?usp=sharing

TL;DR: Weight painting from the top applies to the bottom, and vice versa.

Unrelated specifically to this, is there a troubleshooting guide for all kinds of operations? or simply an FAQ? I didn’t find one in this subreddit.

But I find it really helpful if there was a guide that could list problems encountered when attempting to use this tool or method from the most common to the least.
