The Origins of the 2187 Easter Egg in Star Wars – Star Wars Explained #Shorts –
2187 is a number that has become a bit of an easter egg in Star Wars. It was Princess Leia’s cell number in A New Hope. It was Finn’s FN number in The Force Awakens. And so on. But do you know why George Lucas originally put it in the script for Star Wars? It’s a reference to a 1963 short film 21-87 by Arthur Lipsett. An abstract montage film that greatly influenced Lucas and the kinds of films he wanted to make. It also caused Lucas to name many of his early short films and even his first feature film after numbers. And so the number 2187 is meant to honor that influence.
