Entry for thingiverse design challenge. The desk organizer I designed was made with the intent to serve as a storage utility, tablet/ cell phone/ screen stand or support, and a charging station for devices.
There is storage spot for a Vernier caliper and a storage spot for pens, pencils, or miscellaneous items of that similar size. There are two shelfs that can be used to place note pads or other items. There is a designated area for a mobile charger and a sliding lid that encloses the charge which can be removed if a mobile wireless charger is to be used. The stand has an adjustable length allowing for screen angle to be adjusted. One issue I did have was with the size, I wanted high stability and support but, I was monitoring the overall dimensions would fit on the print bed size in the makerbot program. Finding common sizes for portable chargers was an issue, to overcome this I designed the storage space to allow for supports that can be changed easily for the dimensions of the desired portable charger. Another issue was designing an adjustable stand without using additional parts but, using only what could be 3d printed. Given the opportunity to redesign I would consider maximizing space, possibly decreasing overall size. I would also consider redesigning how the stand is adjustable. 3D printing allows for rapid prototyping and low part cost per unit. Since the storage for the portable charger allows for different support lengths 3D printing would allow for easy production of different lengths.
