Why Cal Kestis is So Good at Lightsaber Customization –

Tinkering with Cal’s lightsaber is one of the most fun cosmetic things you can do in both Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor. Obviously that’s a game mechanic for the players first and foremost. A way to insert some of their own identity into the story. But there is actually an in-universe reason Cal became so adept at customizing his weapon when most other Jedi simply made their lightsaber and left it alone. As a Padawan his master, Jaro Topal, would assign Cal a tedious task whenever Cal would get too overwhelmed as a way to calm him back down. He had his student catalog every piece of a lightsaber in detail. Sketching them all out, describing each part’s use, understanding how they could each be broken or repaired. Assuming he had to do that multiple times, Cal would have become an expert on lightsaber customization quickly. Out of universe I think his willingness to upgrade his lightsaber shows adaptability in dangerous and changing times, as well.
