I have recently been trying out some locomotion devices that let you walk in place. One of the limitations is that your maximum and minimum movement speeds are confined by what is available on the stick. Sprint buttons can also complicate things, as you have to learn what speed causes it to kick in and adjust your walking to accommodate it.
I have also been trying out OVR, moving my playspace around. So I was wondering, is it hypothetically possible to use treadmills/locomotion devices to move your playspace rather than moving the stick. I think if it were then movement could be a lot more fluid and freeing, as there would be more precision to work with and there wouldn’t be any limitation on movement speed.
I am guessing there are probably technical hurdles that would make it a lot more complicated to set up. No limitations on movement could also allow people to run into walls and objects where there was supposed to be collision. I’m just wondering if it is possible. I was looking for an option in OVR to map playspace movement to the left stick, but I couldn’t seem to find anything that allowed for that. That would at least be a start.
