Is Boulder trying to price out lonely people?? Great 2-beds all over the map but the 1-bed market is garbage – February 22, 2023 at 10:14PM

I’m moving to Boulder in May and I’ve been searching for apartments for the last month. I don’t know anybody in town so I’m forced to find a 1-bed, but the price is either ridiculous or the place is an absolute sh*thole! I’m looking to pay like $2k a month max but the only decent options are $2.4k apartments in cheap-looking “luxury” commieblocks in Boulder Junction. There are a couple $1.8k options in Baseline Sub but the interiors look 30 years out of date.

I switch my filters over to 2br and there are options galore! Beautiful homes in North Boulder for like $3k! Giant 2br apartments in the same crappy “luxury” buildings for only $300 more than a 1-bed! What gives? And does anyone have any advice on finding a potential roommate? I’ve checked the housing sub and literally no one posts there and the facebook page for Boulder roommates hasn’t approved my request to post for like 3 days. I’m fucked!
