Looking for app for local hiking. with gps and map download. – February 14, 2023 at 10:29AM

I am looking for a hiking app for my phone that would list “shorter hikes” (about 2-8 miles),that are close to my home (maybe within about 60 mile radius). From what I see there are phone apps that list long trails but don’t see any that specify small local trails in my area. While driving in my car I must have passed about 4 or 5 local trailheads that would be good for an absolute beginner.

I would like it to have the ability to download a trail map and occasionally turn on gps to check where I am on the trail. Would like some tips to conserve battery also.

(I met a hiker last week that was traveling the florida trail (a LONG trail) and said he uses farout app. With this app you pay for each trail map individually. You can download and use gps, But I didn’t see any local trail maps , just longer trails. So this app probably wouldn’t work for me.)

As far as expense, I don’t mind paying a little for an app to help with small local trails.
