Tolkien-esque map of Mono Lake – September 6, 2022 at 02:43PM

I made this one in Procreate by tracing from Google Maps screenshots, then finished it in Photoshop. I’m working on a book of photos of Mono Lake (this amazing saltwater lake in California’s Eastern Sierras) and wanted to have a map for the book. Since I’m naming my photos based on places from Tolkien’s stories, I tried to get some of that vibe in there too. For the text, I typed it in Photoshop and then (stupidly) traced every single letter back in Procreate, so that it would look more handmade and varied.

The edges represent the three key species that populate the lake, describing their entire taxonomic tree.
