Best program for creating images into map projections and for what I am trying to do? – July 24, 2022 at 07:22PM

Kind of unrelated to GIS, but it relates to using GIS technology and this sub is most likely to find a solution.

I have been using G.projector to create map projections from height maps. Only problems are the images can only be saved a maximum of 10000 wide and 5000 tall, and I can’t figure out how to change the “center point” of the projection.

What I mean by center point are the coordinates 0N,0E or 0,0 on a regular map. I would like to change the center point to something else, while still being able to use existed height map images to distort them to my projection.

So far, I’ve only found one website that does this, and you cannot overlay an image on it and it saves a png vector-like image at a resolution of about 1000 pixels.

For example, I want to set a equirectangular height map projection to have the center point at the geographic center of earth and as a azimuthal equidistant projection. More specifically, I want to distort the center point of a equirectangular height map, save it in high res, then re-import it while half-stretched and project that image as half of a peirce quincuncial projection (which is basically a square azimuthal equidistant projection) and save that at a resolution at or greater than the height map image I used. Bonus if you can change the rotation of the map projection around the center point too.
