Did you know that Obi-Wan wasn’t originally going to die in Star Wars? During production George Lucas decided the heroes too easily escaped the Death Star. He considered Chewbacca and C-3PO as potential casualties, but decided Obi-Wan was the best choice, since the character didn’t have much to do for the rest of the film, and it would help illustrate the mysticism of the Force. Alec Guinness was initially displeased, but accepted the change after a dinner with Lucas.
