Casket with steampunk inlay

casket-with-steampunk-inlay

I was wondering how will look like a combination of “wooden” and “metal” filaments. I decided to create a small “wooden” casket with a “metal” inlay. My original concept was a little bit different but finally, inlay has a steampunk character – composition of the gears. The box is created using PLA Cork filament, the inlay with PLA Copper filament – both from Print-me company. Details are visible in the attached pictures and in this video:

Box visible in the pictures has 1 mm thick walls but after “tests”, I think that they should be thicker, so I prepared also versions with 2 mm thick walls. The project contains both versions of the box.

The hinge axis is also 3D printed – I’ve printed it in the “vase” mode.

Parts are glued together using “super glue”.

Four small cylindrical magnets are needed to build this project:

– 2 pcs of 4×3 (4 mm diameter, 3 mm heigh)

– 2 pcs of 6×1.5 (6 mm diameter, 1.5 mm heigh)

their real diameters are a little bit smaller.

Remarks:

Decors 1×2 and 1×4 fits the box walls.

Decor 1x4C fits the box cover.

I’m using the following settings:

– material: PLA

– layer: 0.2

– infill: 20%

– support: not needed

The cover should be flipped on its back before printing.

Hinge Axis can be printed in the vase mode.
