Laptop Phone Holder

Project summary: My project is designed to be a way for students to keep their phones out of sight but within reach in case they need them. The design is basic to make it simple and quick to print. It consists of two identical parts that latch onto the top of a students laptop and run down the side of it to form two hooks to hold a phone. The parts are designed to stay flush with the body of the students laptop and straighten out to hold the phone perpendicular to the ground. The edges are rounded out to minimize the chance of scratches occurring and to save time printing.

What issues did you come up against? The issue I came up with was distractions via students’ cell phones. Cell phone distraction is typically common when the student has a line of sight with their phone. A common solution for this is for a student to put their phone in a separate room, however, students always have the excuse of “what if I need it for something important”. My design gets around this by breaking the students’ line of sight with their phone but allowing them to have it close by for reassurance.

If you could redesign this again what would you change? If I could redesign this again I would come up with a way to 3d model an angle-adjusting system for the part that latches on the laptop. I would aim for this system to be printable in one piece attached to the main design.

How would 3d printing help strengthen your design? 3D printing would help strengthen my design by allowing it to be scalable to laptop size. Additionally, my design is small enough that it can be printed quite quickly, meaning 3D printing will be more beneficial.
