Cooler WiiMote Gun

large_preview_WiiMote_Gun.jpg

As part of a quarantine project, I decided to pick up a used Nintendo Wii online to mod, and thought it would be fun to try 3D printing the accessories for it. Unfortunately, there aren’t a ton of aesthetic options for most of the lightguns. So, I decided to try my hand at remixing an existing one by combining some cool looking prop guns with it.

FILES USED:

WiiMote Gun by Benni12er – https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3650953

This was the base model I used for my remix. I liked the simplicity of the trigger mechanism. Less parts, less things to break.

Cyberpunk Heavy Pistol by Torvaun – https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2795568

I used the body file from this pistol, it fit well with the grip I’d chosen and it had that cool scifi look you see on a lot of arcade cabinet light guns.

Warhammer 40K HANDGUN by TheTNR – https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4031617

Who doesn’t love a beefy Space Marine style pistol? This is where I got the pistol grip from, and it was basically perfect in terms of fit with the other parts.

Nintendo Logo by Yoshiman6464 – https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:734530

I wanted to sneak a Nintendo logo into the model somewhere, so I placed this on both sides of the pistol grip.

This is a Frankenstein project. Parts mashed together in MeshMixer, geometry fixed up in Blender and final touches added in with TinkerCAD

SPECIAL THANKS:

A HUGE thank you to FIDreams. I am not an experienced modeler by any stretch of the imagination and after slapping all these files together, it looked cool, but functionally, the geometry wasn’t suitable for printing. I reached out on the Blender3D Thingiverse group and FIDreams offered to fix it up for me. Please take a second and check out his page, he has a bunch of cool designs and is a super helpful guy.

I’m marking this as a WIP for now since I have yet to print it and verify the fit and function. In addition, once I can confirm that it works well, I’d like to add a hole in the trigger to accommodate a spring from a ball point pen. The designer of the original file stated that his work fine without one, but I like the idea of having it for a more springy feel.

If anyone decides to give printing it a shot, I’d love feedback and pictures!

A final thank you to everyone who designed the models used in this project. If it weren’t for creators like you, willing to share your designs and allowing others to build upon them, I wouldn’t be posting this today.
