This is an attempt to fight against the current virus crisis with CG plus 3D printing means.
It tries to provide a workflow and source files to easily build a custom reusable mask needing just a small piece of plane filtration material and including a face shield.
NOTE: These are just files so this CAN NOT be a medical device with some testing or certification. The safety of the final thing depends much on the accuracy to process the source files, the materials you use and the environment you build it in.
If you create this thing you’re the one being responsible for the safety of a final product.
This project started at https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/meshmixer/custom-fit-filtration-mask-to-print/td-p/9407837. Please join the discussion there if you’ve suggestions to improve or questions regarding the workflow. Detailed description to generate the mask model is over there too.
The downloads include all partial files in .STL format as well as the all-in-one Meshmixer project file. So downloading that CustomMaskV5.MIX you got all need to load to Meshmixer and build a custom mask from a source shape. This individual face shape can be grabbed using some 3D scanner technology or a virtual face reconstruction software from a few images (as the FaceBuilder plugin for Blender)
When you printed the mask’s body there are three options to clamp the filter (FilterScrew clamping a 38mm diameter filter material pad to the mask directly, SmallCap+SmallBody building an adaptor to use a diameter of 55mm and BigCap+BigBody for 75mm)
The face shield is mounted via 6 neodym magnets (diameter: 6mm, height 2mm). It’s upper PMA frame (Shield1+Shield2) was milled on my CNC instead of printing it and its two halves clamp the foil with another set of the same neodym magnets.
There’s also a readymade mask to print (>ExampleResult.stl) which might you’re lucky. But you might use this too if you apply some sealing tape.
This thing isn’t meant that much for building your personal mask but to produce it for doctors, nurses, paramedics… To protect those we need to protect us.
