Following the COVID-19 epidemic worldwide, there is very high demand and tight supply of surgical masks thus cause the high cost all over the world. To combat the shortage of surgical masks amid the COVID-19 pandemic, searching for alternative is demanding.
To alleviate the problem, I design a 3D printing respirator, which
- is reusable and sterilisable
- uses one-sixth surgical mask as the filter membrane
As interim measures, 3 sizes have been uploaded, namely X6_100, X6_110 and X6_120, you may download it according to your face size.
Steps of how to measure size of your face and produce the respirator are stated as follows.
- Download Face_scale.xlsx first
- At the field of “Your face length” in the excel worksheet, enter the length from your eyes to the lower lip (see photo), for example, preset as 92mm
- Download the corresponding zip file “Download STL file”, for example: X6_120.zip
- Print the model according to the “Printing scale” ratio in the slicing software, for example: 96.23%
- After finishing printing of 5 models, attach waterproof tape to the rear edge of “Body” (see photo)
- Cut a surgical mask, nin general, a surgical masks can be cut in 6 pieces to add as filter membranes (see photo)
- Sandwich 1 filter membrane between “Body” and “Body Cover”
- Install the left and right “Head_cradle”, the pair of cradles has 3 lengths, please adjust and fit accordingly. Use a hair dryer to heat 4 small buckles the end of the cradle and then bend. Use a rubber band to hook the pair of suitable buckles on each side. (personal recommend the 4th buckle which is more comfortable)
- Cut out unnecessary parts after adjustment(see photo )
X6 RESPIRATORS has a certain resistance to breathing. It is only suitable for people with normal cardiopulmonary function for a short period of time. Do not use it if you feel unwell after wearing it.
