Two years and 800 map files later, Paris has a new map. Created by a team of eight dedicated individuals, among them lead Constantine Konovalov, the new Metro Map of Paris is an eye-catcher. Created with map overlays, the designers ultimately made a more visually understandable transit route guide for everyone traveling in Paris.
The entire map is divided into round portions which intersect with the main lines of the tram/transit system of Paris. To make the new map as accessible as possible, all transit lines were straightened (with two times less line bends) as much as possible.
Traditional geographic maps are not the “prettiest” to look at or even easily discernible. With the Metro Map, “[u]sage of circular line pattern is the main principle of the map’s design”, thus enabling the map easier to visually interpret.
What else is awesome about this map? Future transit lines and systems are outlined with dots on the map so people can see how Paris transit will develop! (Scared of the change? Don’t be! The current and original colors and graphic symbols used in the metro, are still intact.) Check out the website for the map, and see the video of how it developed!
