Speed-O’-Sound Sonic is one of the most popular characters in One-Punch Man. He’s got a cool design, has super-speed and is generally obsessed with Saitama (aren’t we all?).

Despite being a pretty impressive villain, he’s also remarkably bad at doing the thing he’s always set out to do: become Saitama’s greatest rival. This means he ends up looking pretty foolish more often than not, and like pretty much everyone who goes up against Saitama, ends up being the butt of a lot of jokes. And this is a treat for all of us who love memes. Here are the 10 super-funny Speed-O’-Sound Sonic memes.

10 I Am Speed

There are a lot of layers to this meme. Putting Sonic’s hair on Lightning McQueen is already hilarious since we love Cars memes in general. Lightning often uses the mantra of “I am speed” as he’s racing, and Sonic seems to be thinking it 100% of the time, all the time, no matter what he’s doing. Everyone loves a terrible photoshop job, so the added hair on top of Lightning, along with the more subtle, but even more hilarious, purple face paint under the eyes on the hood of the car, are just too good to not include on this list.

9 I’m Going to Become A Monster

Speed O’ Sound Sonic seems, for all intents and purposes, to be a joke about Sonic the Hedgehog, from his name to the fact that he’s a speedster. So, of course, the memes comparing the two of them are widespread. Sonic the Hedgehog memes, in general, make fun of the weird, slightly grotesque little blue guy and the incredibly rabid fanbase that surrounds him. Here, Speed O’ Sound Sonic is about to eat some monster cells, which will turn him into a grotesque monster and make him stronger so he can defeat Saitama. The joke is that it will indeed turn him into a super-creepy Sonic the Hedgehog Halloween costume, complete with mesh eyes and a mouth hole.

Speed O’ Sound Sonic is a pretty strong guy, who’s impressive at using his speed in battles. But like many of the villains in One-Punch Man, he regularly fails to measure up to Saitama, who can… defeat his opponents in one punch. Sonic is determined to become strong enough to one day take on and defeat Saitama but hasn’t come anywhere near doing so. So referring to himself as Saitama’s rival is laughable. In no universe has he reached a level where his power could rival Saitama’s and, more to the point, he’s rarely ever on Saitama’s radar. Usually, a rivalry requires both of the people involved to acknowledge each other. It does certainly feel like Sonic is making one heck of a joke, which seems like it could have come right out of a Top Ten list.

7 Saitama: Exists

On a similar note, Saitama and Sonic have faced off a number of times, with Saitama leaving Sonic in the dust on every occasion. Sonic’s nowhere near the most powerful opponent Saitama has ever faced, and he rarely exerts much energy in actually taking the time to defeat Sonic.

In fact, Saitama often defeats him by accident, with a casual blow, the way he beats many of his opponents. Sometimes, it does feel like Saitama is going through his day, living his life, barely even thinking about fighting anyone, and Sonic, nearby, seems to be spitting up blood about it.

6 Saitama: Grocery Shopping

One of the major character traits of Saitama is that he never seems to realize he’s about to walk into a battle or that he’s about to be attacked. He often obliviously moves through the world, not knowing what’s going on or realizing there are people around who may be interested in hurting him.

Sonic, of course, is constantly looking for opportunities to catch Saitama off-guard, and what better time to do that when he’s out and about, not in costume, just trying to buy some food? The fact that the meme features a man in camo and face paint trying to surprise attack a dude literally holding a gun makes this even more amazing. Sneaking up on him still isn’t going to stop Saitama from beating him.

5 Guess Sonic Will Die

Sonic always seems to think that he’s finally made it, he’s finally gotten strong enough, finally reached the point when he can take on Saitama, and this time, he’s going to win. Then Saitama pulls out some insane finishing move, reminding us again that this dopey bald guy is actually really good at all this superhero stuff. This meme is extra-funny with the shrugging old man and the fade effect, which makes it feel like he’s moving really fast, like Sonic himself probably would if he found himself suddenly dying at Saitama’s hands.

Speed O’ Sound Sonic would probably punch anyone for 100,000 dollars. And it’s also probably safe to say he doesn’t have very many friends since he’s constantly trying to fight people.

But given his nature, and the fact that Saitama is probably the closest thing Sonic has to a friend, we could probably say that Sonic would punch Saitama for 100,000 dollars. Or, more likely, that Saitama would punch Sonic for 100,000 dollars.

Memes that are supposed to be about things girls like are pretty annoying, even to a lot of girls. They’re especially annoying when they’re straightforward, unfunny images about the way boys behave that girls like, especially since they’re generally pretty shallow uninteresting things that most people find attractive in others: nice smiles, pretty eyes, etc. So when we see “boys who have the perfect smile” paired up with Sonic’s maniacal, conniving grin, it’s amazingly funny, both poking fun at the original meme format and at Sonic’s wild-eyed expression, especially on a character who is generally physically attractive.

The Feel Old Yet? meme format has been around for a long time. The idea is to make us feel old by showing us something that has been around for a long time, like a movie that came out when we were kids or a child actor who has since grown up. Of course, meme-makers around the world quickly turned this into nonsense, with fake ages or comparisons between two things that are unrelated, or even a glass of water next to Ice Cube. In this case, the meme showcases the suspiciously similar character designs between Speed O’ Sound Sonic and Wraith from the video game Apex Legends, which came out last year.
