Intense Cold Weather Training Exercise: USMC Live-Fire HIMARS, Howitzers, Mortars And More

Intense Cold Weather Training Exercise: USMC Live-Fire HIMARS, Howitzers, Mortars And More –

The austere wintry conditions of the Yausubetsu Training Area in Hokkaido, Japan, allowed units across III Marine Expeditionary Force including 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment (an activated reserve unit and part of the unit deployment program), and 3rd Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, and 3rd Law Enforcement Battalion, an excellent opportunity to perfect their cold-weather proficiency and lethality.

This extensive live-fire training event (recorded February 2-5, 2020) featured M124 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, M777 Howitzers, M252 81mm Mortars, and M240B machine guns; and was conducted as part of exercise ‘Northern Viper’—’Northern Viper’ is a regularly scheduled bilateral training event in alliance with the Japan Self-Defense Forces.

And it was obviously a very successful training event, with a multitude of committed participants substantially enhancing their ‘cold weather environments’ warfighting capabilities.
