Altazimuth mount

This is alt az head mount for telescopes or other astro stuff, with full guiding capabilities, mounted on HEQ-5 tripod.

All elements are posted in two versions – the second one contains collar for better print adhesion, due to warping occuring in big items printing process (the only problem is to remove this without damage main element).

Because 3D printing is not perfect, a few sizes have additional tolerance (+/- 0.1-0.3 or more).

Motors

Being dedicated to a even medium weight optical device, I used two Nema 23 Stepper Motor with 100:1 High Precision Planetary Gearbox (model 23HS22-2804S-HG100).

Software

For guiding, I used modified OnStep software (by H. Dutton).

Hardware

For stepper motor controlling, I used cheap TB6600 with 1/32 resolution, powering by 12V

8A laptop power supply.

As a microcontroller, I chose ESP32 DevKit with bluetooth on board, for easy wireless device controlling.

BOM

2 x bearing 6010 ZZ 50x80x16mm, one for every axis (there is enought space for 2 if need)

M3 screws with nuts

M4 screws with nuts

M5 screws

Suggestion

This project is matched to my 3d printer, considering her moods and printing style (i.e. tolerant spacing, threads, infill style). I suggest to treat this design as a concept, not as a complete solution. Probably another attempt to make will require corrections and fixes.

Thanks

I’d like to thanks for Roman Hujer and Howard Dutton, i.a. based on their projects and solutions, which were my inspiration for this design.

About pictures

I printed from black filament, so don’t expect miracles 🙂
