Chris Hemsworth And Other Celebs Are Donating Huge Sums Of Money To Help The Australian Bushfire Crisis by Kate Streit

Chris Hemsworth And Other Celebs Are Donating Huge Sums Of Money To Help The Australian Bushfire Crisis –

As the Australian bushfire crisis continues, celebrities are stepping in to do their part. Actor Chris Hemsworth decided to put a lot of money behind his support for the crisis — the “Avengers” and “Thor” star donated $1 million to the cause.

Hemsworth, who was born in Melbourne, took to Instagram to explain why he has chosen to contribute to support the relief effort.

In his video, the Australian native asks that his followers join him in contributing in any “way, shape or form” that they can, noting that “every dollar counts” and goes “directly to the firefighters, the people on the front lines, the people who have suffered, communities that have taken a hit and are in desperate need of our support”:

In the caption of his post, he notes that he has included links in his Instagram bio to organizations and charities that are working to support the relief effort, including the Australian Red Cross, the World Wildlife Fund, relief funds for people displaced by the fires and various fire services and brigades around the country.

“Beyond appreciative to everyone around the world for their well wishes and donations,” he wrote. “It really does make a difference, so dig deep! Love ya.”

Hemsworth is not the only famous face to donate to the cause. On Jan. 4, Nicole Kidman, who was raised in Sydney, also posted to Instagram about her family’s pledge of $500,000 to rural fire services:

She also included links to local fire services in her post.

“Fleabag” star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who is British, announced that she plans to auction off the Ralph & Russo suit she wore to the Golden Globes on Jan. 5 and donate the proceeds to the fire relief.

Singer Pink has also pledged a donation of $500,000 to local fire services and posted the same list of links as Kidman did to Instagram:

“I am totally devasted watching what is happening in Australia right now with the horrific bushfires,” she wrote. “I am pledging a donation of $500,000 directly to the local fire services that are battling so hard on the frontlines. My heart goes out to our friends and family in Oz.”

On Jan. 7, during a concert in Sydney, Elton John pledge a million dollars to the relief fund. He did not clarify whether in U.S. or Australian dollars.
