Luxury line Christian Dior has apologized to China after one of its staff presented a map of China that excluded Taiwan.
The company created a presentation in hopes of recruiting students from the Zhejiang Province in China, but left out the self-ruling island from the map.
In addition, one of Dior’s employees present at the event told students that Taiwan and Hong Kong were part of the Asia Pacific region.
The touchy move has peeved Chinese customers, forcing the French label to issue an immediate apology and emphasizing that the company will “seriously investigate the incident.”
In a statement, Dior said that it perpetually “respects and upholds” the One China principle, and promises to “safeguard China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity” as well as the feelings of Chinese shoppers.
This statement was published on Dior’s account on China’s social media platform Weibo. Previously, other luxury brands such as Valentino and Versace found themselves in hot water after listing Hong Kong and Taiwan outside of China.
