Charlotte Bronte’s ‘Shirley’ was hugely successful in her lifetime, yet nowadays is much less read than ‘Jane Eyre,’ partly because of its length and density. Although it is a less dramatic novel than ‘Jane Eyre’, ‘Shirley’ contains memorable scenes and characters – notably that of Shirley herself, a portrait of Emily Bronte.
This edition shortens the book to about 60% of its original length, and simplifies it slightly, making it more accessible to the modern reader.
It is one of several abridged classic novels which are free to download as epub, mobi (for Kindle) or pdf files, from https://ift.tt/2z9qAyr.
